Features
Consistent with the vision described in the Mission Statement, the Enterprise Charter School (ECS) incorporates the following features:
Project based learning
- The ECS uses this approach to learning because it has been shown to give students the opportunity to utilize skills they acquire in the classroom and apply them to real community issues.
Extended School Year Extended School Day
- The school's hours of operation will be from 9am-4:15 pm with before school and after school programming available beyond those hours for all of our students. Our school year begins in August and ends in July.
- Departmentalized instruction beginning in Grade 3. Students switch classes for Social Studies, Science and Math. This allows teachers to become specialists in their area. Instruction is aligned with the NYS Learning Standards.
Nonviolence education / Conflict resolution
- The ECS incorporates in its curriculum non-violence education and conflict resolution using a program from the WNY Peace Center modeled on the Resolving Conflicts Creatively Program. The RCCP has shown results currently serving 6,000 teachers and 175,000 young people in 375 schools nationwide, including the New York City Public Schools and twelve other diverse school systems and is critical in the school's effort to reduce discipline sanctions, improve social and life skills and create a positive learning environment.
Multi-age classrooms
- The ECS uses multiage classrooms because this allows children to acquire academic skills at a pace that is in line with their ability and cognitive development while they learn together with and from one another.
Art, Music, Physical Education, Computers, Vocational Technology, and Foreign Language (Kindergarten - Grade 8)
- The ECS includes full-year instruction at all Levels in art, music, physical education, computers, vocational technology, and foreign language to meet the State's Learning Standards and to provide a well-rounded education to complement the core subjects.
Enrichment and Remediation period
- An enrichment and remediation period is built into the school schedule to give students who need it extra time with reading and math and to develop students' individual talents through special classes offered by our staff and outside agencies. These classes are based on student/parent interest and the classroom teacher's recommendation.
